Seven Dreams of Falling, is a re-thinking of the Icarus myth. It's late in the post-modern day and Icarus has grown weary of falling out of the sky over and over in painting, poetry, and myth. Having decided it's time for a career change, he plots his escape from a cycle of doomed repetition even as family and friends, who are part of his story, find themselves struggling with the idea of letting go. Can Icarus simply fly out of his own life? And if he can, what does that mean for those he leaves behind Deadalus, a father for whom rules, rituals and quantum mechanics are sacred; Theseus, a fading hero who loves the monster he must kill; Ariadne, the hero's former flame, the monster's half-sister, Lesbian cultural-critic; and the monster himself, The Minotaur, who holds a secret that could destroy them all...or set them free. It's a comedy of mythic proportions. a review of Seven Dreams of Falling, “The dialogue is snappy, off-the-wall, and literate, wielded to great comic effect, like early Woody Allen pieces in The New Yorker. There are references to Brueghel, who painted the iconic image of a falling Icarus; to William Carlos Williams who wrote a poem called "Landscape With The Fall Of Icarus"; to Werner Heisenberg's uncertainty principle; to feminist theory; and to the violation of culture-defining mythic master narratives. They're all there, parceled and presented in ways you've never seen before.” --The Huffington Post “This is Icarus in modern times. [Wilkerson’s] revamping of an old tale is a fine example that there is much to be done with what has already been done.” --examiner.com

Well written, modern retelling of a well known myth.
Actually, it has been a rather enjoyable read. The new take, or at least modern take, on classic characters has provided plenty of material for ongoing conversations about it.
Very well developed characters. Seems to be a fairly easy to stage adaptation, as well as very engaging.
Make no mistake; this is NOT your average play. This hits you right in the brain, and forces you to give serious thought to the roles we all play.

It was my great honor to play myth Icarus in "Seven Dreams of Falling" at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. As an actor, I'm always on the hunt for fresh, fun original material and with this play I found it. This play is funny, poignant and filled with 5 wonderful, unique characters. Icarus is a living legend playing the same carnival of his doomed flight for the sake of his deranged father and his money-hungry agent...he has grown weary of his legend, the story and the entire game he's been forced to play. Toss in an angry semi-lesbian blogger and you have a recipe for dysfunction Crete-style. I HIGHLY recommend this show of EPIC proportions!
Wilkerson's play puts a different spin on the Icarus myth who flies too close to the sun and then plummets to his death in the sea after the wings melted from the heat of the sun. It's the same story but brought into modern day commenting on our capitalist society by putting the actual fall on the Internet for all the world to see and make some money at the same time. This play runs about fifty minutes in playing time and is perfect play for theatre companies to perform. Small cast and a meaty text making this a piece actors will love. There are also scenes in this play for student actors to grab from for acting class. And this play is FUNNY. I highly recommend this play to anyone especially those interested in Greek mythology as we'll as actors, producers and directors.
