I’ve been a long time reader of romance novels, be it adult romance or YA romance. And one thing I’ve always felt missing is a nice and fun romantic comedy. Well, I have to look no further because Deana Dee rolls a critical hit and wins me over with her debut novel—Critical Hit-On, a gamers and geeks romance!Molly, a former geek who now tries to play sit cool around geeky stuff, meets Craig, a total geek hottie who loves nothing more than to play D&D with his group of friends. Previous relationship experiences have left her wary of falling for a geek, but there’s something about Craig’s good looks and inherently good nature that has her heart beating faster. The chemistry they develop is fueled by dates in the perfect geeky settings like the movies, D&D gaming nights, and trips to the game store!
However, not every turn brings them a perfect roll of romance. Molly’s past experiences have left her reluctant to open up her heart again to another geek guy. And Craig has some family secrets he’d rather not discuss with the first beautiful girl that has not run away from him. Will Molly and Craig be able to complete their adventure quest and find love? You’ll have to read and find out just how many monsters they’ll battle!
This is a fun and light story full of movie, game, and other geeky references that had me laughing at every turn. The characters are lively, enthusiastic in their geek-ness, and very much like your own group of best friends. I can’t wait to read the next installment in The Games of Love series.

Critical HitOn The Games of Love Book 1 edition by Deanna Dee M T DeSantis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Now I will start of by saying that I'm more of a nerd than a geek and by that I mean I know nothing about role playing games or card games or anything like that so I wasn't sure what to expect when reading this book. I was afraid I would get lost in the gamer lingo and although there were a couple terms I wasn't familiar with it didn't detract from the story at all. You certainly don't need to be a geek or a gamer to enjoy this book. Anyone can relate to Molly, who is basically a girl who got hurt by a guy and is afraid to trust again. The same can be said for Craig who wonders if he can be in a relationship and still have time to focus on the other important things in his life...his family. I found the issues the characters were dealing with were very relate-able and I especially loved the supporting cast. Craig and Molly's friends were awesome and I would love for some of them to get their own stories...fingers crossed!
Now I struggled trying to decide what rating to give this book, as a said I really enjoyed the story. My biggest fear was that it was about geeks/gamers and that would totally lose my interest, since that's not something I was involved in, was definitely not true. I was happy to find that I enjoyed that aspect of the characters and the story very much. The only thing I struggled with was certain things about Molly and Craig. When it comes to Molly I understand that she was hurt by her last boyfriend and that he was involved in the gamer culture but I thought it was weird that her distrust of men only extended to other "geeks". I mean if a guy cheated on me I wouldn't be like...oh it must be because he's a gamer. I just found that weird and I imagine most people wouldn't have an issue with that but for some reason it bothered me. Then there's Craig, his sister is extra rebellious these days and so he feels he should hide that from Molly. I don't really understand the need to lie about that. But I guess if his last relationship ended because of the time he spent dealing with his sister that might explain his reluctance. I just think that not telling her he has a rebellious sister doesn't change the fact that he'll still have to spend time looking out for his sister.
So, I may have had some minor issues with the choices the main characters made but the story was lovely. The love story was sweet and quickly found myself rooting for Molly and Craig. I would love to read another story starring some of the fun characters we met in Critical Hit-On. I think gamers may find a bit extra to love about this and I was happy to read a book with an idea so new to me.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
A great new addition to the Geek Romance Genre. Tons of D&D easter eggs for people who are familiar with the game and wonderful, relatable, and competent main characters for everybody.
This is a sweet romance sure to delight your inner-geek. The characters are young, smart, and full of snark, while remaining compassionate. Star Trek, Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons - oh my!
This story was genuine and heartfelt. I have only read a few romance books and I'm happy I took the time to read this one. As a gamer myself, it was fun to see all the RPG references as well as the pop culture references.
I really enjoyed reading this book the description of each characters were made the book more fun read Parker Peterson reminds me of The Big Bang Theory. I would definitely recommend Critical Hit On to everyone who liked romance. Looking forward to reading Critical Hit On Book II, I'd like to know will (someone) ever get over not having Craig for a boyfriend.
I don’t tend to read romance novels, but having been through my share of gamer boyfriends, I was intrigued by the premise of CRITICAL HIT-ON (plus, I’m a sucker with books that have puns in the title).
Overall, it was a cute, fun read, perfect vacation reading material. The two protagonists were well fleshed out with developed backstories. The villainous ex-boyfriend was deliciously smarmy without being overly clichéd. Unfortunately, the rest of the cast was a bit on the stereotypical side. The gaming group especially hit all the main gamer group character roles, but could have been a bit more three-dimensional.
I really appreciated the presence of not one but two major subplots to balance out the relationship drama (again, because I’m not generally the type to be interested solely in relationship drama). Alas, I felt that neither of them were resolved effectively, leaving too many lose threads as the main characters walked into the sunset.
Despite the book’s (few) flaws, there were some truly lovely turns of phrase in both the narrative and dialogue that I enjoyed immensely. I would be pleased to read more by this debut author. Perhaps some of the other members of the gaming group can have their own chances at love?
